Just Search for Color

Today, I decided to be a bit more productive and creative after getting home from work by going out and taking some pictures. Without getting too detailed, because talking about this could be its own blog post, around 3 months ago I began wanting to take and use my own photographs for my artwork. I decided this because sometimes when I look through stock photos online, I come across a great photo, but there is one small detail about it I do not like. Whenever this happened I just put up with it and tried to find a way around it, but this became slightly disappointing as some things I wanted to do could not come to fruition because of a lack of proper stock. It was also frustrating because they were easy things I could recreate, but I "lacked" the time and energy to go out and take the photos myself. So now that I am focused on improving my skill set to make it broader and more encompassing, I figured adding photography would be a no-brainer!
So, with that being said, when I got home I grabbed my camera and headed right back out to find cool places to take some photos. In my search today, I came across a local overlook spot of Lake Erie. While there, I was able to get a couple great shots of the lake. The pictures appeared so symmetrical to me that I thought about possibly distorting them in a certain fashion to make an interesting pattern. Aside from the lake, I also got some cool shots of stone tubes sticking out of the water and some nice breaking wave pictures. Again, those wave pictures may be distorted to make a pattern of some kind. After finishing up my time at this outlook area, I decided to try another spot that I had remembered.
Behind an elementary school in my city is a wooded area that has a few winding paths and, in my opinion, some very cool vegetation. Although it was a bit darker at this time and I was pretty sure I had seen a ghost, I still managed to take some interesting pictures. My favorite of them all is the darker photo of the forest trail. However, I have yet to look at them on my computer because I am kind of scared I'll see something that I wouldn't want to see otherwise. Nonetheless, this spot provided some cool shots and was totally worth it; even if I was bitten by at least a thousand mosquitoes.
Overall, I was pretty happy with how today turned out. It felt good knowing I was pushing myself to improve my eye for photography. This exercise will definitely become a regular thing of mine because you know what? Practice makes perfect. Hopefully, I'm at least happy enough with some of the pictures I took in order to create some sort of art piece with them.
Here is a small gallery of a few of the photos I mentioned above:
