Ever since I started focusing on design in my free time, I have seen my mood become much happier and my creativity, both in a professional and personal setting, has skyrocketed. I honestly believe my life has been changed for the better with my focus on growing my creativity. With that being said, in today's post, I want to explain why everyone should take up some sort of creative outlet.
Finding a creative outlet is my number one piece of advice to anyone who finds themselves stressed or bored a lot. It is a great way to channel all the crazy things in life into a positive outcome! As you all know, the creative outlet I found for myself was digital art and design. Creating my art and just messing around with ideas that pop in my head is something I look forward to every day. One instance when this was definitely true was during my freshman year of high school. That year, in the weeks leading up to my midterms, I had been insanely stressed out about trying to balance my large amount of school work, my commitments to organizations I was a part of, my social life, and so much more! I tried using video games and social media to try and distract me, but these ended up being just short-term solutions that got me even more stressed in the long run. Thankfully, one day I just decided to open up Photoshop and start messing around with the program. Little did I know, however, that an hour had gone by when I finally decided to look up again. Upon realizing that, I was surprised to not feel stressed about what had happened that day anymore. I was actually very happy and felt accomplished with some progress I had made with Photoshop. Doing this had really cleared my mind and gave me interesting and personal to focus on. The thing with creative outlets like these is that they allow for you to create something of your own, something that is unique to you and you only. And I think that sense of accomplishment you get after doing something like that is unmatched by anything.
While my creative outlet was found in the Adobe Suite, yours does not have to be. There are tons of other hobbies that you can pick up to push your creative bounds and force you to think outside the box. Hobbies like music, performing arts, writing, drawing, video editing, and so many more. However, I am sure many of you reading may be thinking that "Hey, I'm just not a creative person" or "I won't be any good at those things." To that, I will respectfully say that you are very, very wrong. Actually, to be honest, I believe you all have the ability to create the art that I make today! It may take some practice and experience but in the end, all it comes down to is starting. Just start trying a talent that you have always admired, whether that be music or art or writing. Whatever it is, just start doing it. Nobody and I mean NOBODY, it a fantastic artist or musician right of the bat. In fact, I still have a ways to go before I consider myself a great artist.
So in short, do yourself a favor and just try out an activity that forces you to be creative. It will bring so much more joy and feelings of accomplishment to your life. I tried it out, and man was it worth it!
